Baltimore Area Council's 100th Anniversary at Oregon Ridge

Last month Troop 746 celebrated our troop’s 60th anniversary.  This month the troop celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting by attending the Baltimore Area Council Rock the Ridge Camporee.  Thousands of scouts and scouters converged on Oregon Ridge Park for the celebration.  Friday night consisted of setting up camp and unpacking, but the real festivities started Saturday morning.   Stations were set up throughout the park for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.  Some of the stations included Model Rockets where Scouts made and shot off rockets and Architecture Institute where participants were challenged to use paper to build the lightest tower that could hold the most weight.  At the Sporting Arrows station scouts challenged their archery skills by trying to shoot disks that were launched into the air.  Patrick C.  said that his favorite station was the Mountain Biking Station, but his brother Michael liked the Cooking Station.
In the evening the troops were treated to a concert.  Three local bands competed in a Battle of the Bands.  Scouts registered their votes using cell phones.  Also performing were the bands School of Rock and Eyeshine.  When asked what he thought was the best part of the Camporee, Michael felt by far it was the laser light show and fireworks.  Some rain showers moved in the end of the Camporee on Sunday, but that did not put a damper on all the fun the scouts had.
